Weeky Wins: Things to Do in Phx 10/10-10/16

 

 

Is it just us, or are the weeks flying by? We aren’t complaining, because the further we get into October, the nicer the weather gets. There’s a ton going on this upcoming week in the Valley, including many events for food lovers. Whatever you’re into, though, we think you’ll find it on this list!

Wednesday, October 10

– Enjoy the cooler weather and head over to Margaret T. Hance Park in Phoenix for “WalkPhx Wednesday,” starting at 5:15 pm. The 3.2-mile walking route allows you to enjoy community, and at the finish, you can browse a variety of food trucks. There’s also raffles and prizes.

– It’s Hot Rod Night at Westgate from 5-9pm. Classic cars make their way to the shopping and entertainment center for you to look at, and the event features live music and more! There’s also great happy hour deals at surrounding restaurants.

Thursday, October 11

– The 12th Annual Taste of The Biltmore is back – an upscale block party where the community gets together to participate in the “unofficial kickoff” to the Arizona Charity Season. The $75 ticket gets you to access many food vendors in attendance serving up a variety of cuisines, and benefits charities Feeding Matters and UCP of Central Arizona. – Horror movie lovers wanting should head over to FilmBar for a double feature showing of both “Sweet 16” and “The Convent,” as part of the Retro Nightmares series. The event starts at 9pm, and tickets are $13.

Friday, October 12

– The Rosson House in Phoenix is an 1895 Victorian home with a lot of history. They’re hosting “Victorian Secrets: The Unmentionable Tour” where you can learn all about things from scandalous medical treatments to how people handled hygiene. The $25 ticket includes a visit to the attic (not included in regular tours of the house) and a glass and bites at The Bungalow next door. The event goes from 5-7pm.

– Irish singer-producer Eden (formerly known as “The Eden Project”) is performing at The Van Buren with special guest Kacy Hill. Eden is best known for songs like “XO” and “drugs.” His music style is unique and blends his love for a variety of styles, from EDM to atmospheric and dreamy. Tickets are $23 for the show at 8pm.

Saturday, October 13

– Bring your own beer or wine and head over to The Painters Lounge for a sip and paint night. Learn step-by-step how to replicate the featured painting, which is a gorgeous autumn scene. All of the materials are provided for you, and there’s free parking. Tickets are $29 for students and $39 for adults. Starts at 7 pm.

– The 19th annual “Best of Phoenix A’Fare” is hosted at the Van Buren starting at 8 pm for General Admission. The event features cuisine from over 40 of the Valley’s restaurants, along with drinks and entertainment. Tickets start at $45.

Sunday, October 14

– Don’t miss the Four Peaks Oktoberfest over at Tempe Town Lake from 10am-6pm. The event mixes live music, carnival rides, and of course, all of the German treats and beer that you could ask for. Oh, and there’s dachshund races. General admission is free! Details here.

– Head over to Southern Rail for a night of live jazz on their patio – for their “Jazz & Jambalaya” event starting at 5 pm. There will be Jambalaya and Sazerac specials in addition to their usual menu offerings. Arizona wines are ½ off, also.

Monday, October 15

–  Calling all beer and cheese enthusiasts! North Mountain Brewing will show you how to make quick flavored cheese curds that will be paired with a beer or wine. After this, you’ll see how a spicy cheese spread is made and taste it with German pretzel rolls. You’ll walk away with the recipes, so you can recreate the cheesy creations at home. Tickets are $49 for the event starting at 6pm.

– Free music? Yes, please. Head over to the Rose Room at Valley Bar starting at 9 pm for a free set by DJ Petty Things. The coolest part? The set is full of old school and modern cuts all spun through a cassette tape collection.

Tuesday, October 16

Photo Cred: Suite Experience Group

– Heavy metal music lovers can still snag tickets to see System of a Down over at the Talking Stick Resort Arena starting at 7 pm. Prices starting at $64.25.

– On the other side of the music spectrum, jazz enthusiasts can head over to the Orpheum Theatre. The Nicole Pesce Jazz Trio (featuring piano, saxophone, and vocals) will be there for an intimate night of music. The show starts at 6:30 pm and a $5 donation is suggested.
