Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 7/18 – 7/24
Now that it’s the heart of summer, most of us here in the Valley have come to terms with the heat. There’s plenty of indoor (or water-related) activities to attend that prevent us from going stir-crazy as we dream of fall and cross our fingers for rain.
Wednesday, July 18th

– Hang out at the W Scottsdale for “Living Room Live” – a live music hangout session from 8-11pm featuring music from The Black Beards Delight. It’s an excuse to dress up and enjoy some live entertainment.
– The Art Museum is showing “Manifesto,” a film starring Cate Blanchet and presented by visual artist Julian Rosefeldt. The film has Cate depict herself in numerous ways to show thirteen distinct artistic statements. The showing is $5 and starts at 6:30pm.
Thursday, July 19th

– Hang out in one of the most artistic neighborhoods in the Downtown Phoenix area and celebrate “Solstice 2018.” This is an annual fundraiser – a night of food and fellowship for the community to connect. Learn about what’s going on in the Roosevelt Row district and also about art-focused programs. Tickets are $35, and the event starts at 5:30pm.
– The Lost Leaf presents a monthly improvised collaboration between DJs and musicians, taking place from 9pm-2am. 21+ event, no cover. Starts at 9pm.
Friday, July 20th
– Get a chance to see a live painting session with artist Antoinette Cauley at the MonOrchid downtown. While painting, Antoinette will answer questions about her artistic background (or anything else you want to hear). Free, but first come first seated. Starts at 6pm.
– Valley Bar is hosting Decker., a Sedona based musician who describes his sound as “psychedelic desert rock.” He draws inspiration from the natural beauty around him. Door open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7pm. Tickets are $8 in advance on the website or $12 on the day of show.
– Harry Potter fans 21 and older can hang out at the Arizona Science Center for an adult night out celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday. The event is $12 and a part of their “Science with a Twist” series. Special drinks will be available and there will be tons of activities to partake in.
Saturday, July 21st

– What better way to celebrate National Hot Dog Day than with the “Wurst Festival Ever” presented by Short Leash Hotdogs. This event is $10 and features local comics, local chefs, and a pun competition. Oh, and hot dogs of course. Starts at 5pm.
– Dance the night away over at the Van Buren for a “Bad and Boujee” party featuring DJS spinning hits from the likes of Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, and 21 Savage among others. Tickets are $7 in advance, $13 at the door. Starts at 9pm and is for 21+.
Sunday, July 22nd

– Support the Diamondbacks in the fight for the postseason during a day game against the Colorado Rockies starting at 1:10pm. It’s also the mascot Baxter’s birthday. Tickets available from $22.
– Check out a Jam Session at the Nash where student and professional musicians play together – unrehearsed. This is a great all-ages event where you can enjoy three hours of jazz. The show starts at 6pm and is $8 at the door (or $5 for students with ID).
Monday, July 23rd
– FilmBar and Devour Phoenix have partnered on a film series inspired by food in film. The series features a film paired with guest speakers from the community. This one features Tamara Stanger from Cotton & Copper and Danielle Leoni from The Breadfruit & Rum Bar. The movie being shown is “A Fine Line.” Tickets are $14, starts at 7:30pm.
– Get your late-night swim on at Maya Day & Nightclub, starting at 10pm. The event is free with an RSVP– featuring Croatia Squad spinning tracks. It’s definitely a way to switch up your Monday night!
Tuesday, July 24th
– Hang out at Valley Bar for “Mixed Media Happy Hour” – a chance to get to know what’s going on in the Phoenix community and meet local artists and influencers. The goal is to identify and track the next generation of Arizona movers and shakers. The event is free, starts at 5:30pm and is 21+.
– Trunk Space is hosting “A Night of Good Songs” featuring several local musicians jamming out. The show is $7, starting around 7:30pm.

– Trivia Tuesdays really are a thing – DeSoto Central Market hosts one from 7pm-10pm. The general trivia event is free, but feel free to grab food and drinks at one of the many vendors inside the space. Prizes for top 3 groups.
