We’ve all been there. You slowly waddle to the scale after a month of consuming nothing but straight turkey, eggnog, and double-fudge brownies. You look down to ponder the atrocity you’ve become, only to have your vision of the scale blocked by a newly sculpted beer belly. Yes, that’s the holiday weight. Looking to shed some extra pounds? We’ve got you covered. The warm weather makes Phoenix a perfect city to host a number of winter races. Here’s a list of races from 5Ks to marathons so you can drop that extra poundage this winter.

Okay, so we know we said these races were a good way to shed the weight from all those holiday meals, but it’s all about balance, right? Fly through this super flat 5K course at Arizona Falls Park— the faster you get to the end, the sooner you’ll get to indulge in the delicious cupcakes waiting for you at the finish line. Not only is this Phoenix Frontrunners inaugural event, but it’s also a great course for beginners so it’s the perfect way for you all to kick these off together!

You can enjoy some fun in the sun at the Desert Classic Marathon. This longstanding marathon is one of Phoenix’s oldest and most beloved races. Every January, runners from around Arizona head to Surprise to test their limits and break personal records. The Desert Classic offers four different events, so you can join in on the fun no matter your training level. The race includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K. Finishers get swag including medals, dry-fit shirts, finisher certificates, and more.

Just because the holiday season is slowly coming to a close, that doesn’t mean all the wonderful winter activities are gone too. There’s still time to check out these local ice skating rinks and show off your skills (or lack thereof).
