Get into the Swing of Golf at These Beginner-Friendly Courses

Golf is the go-to outing for important business conversations, but what if you never learned how to play? It isn’t a common primary school sport, so unless you grew up around the game, it might feel difficult to get into the swing of it — pun intended. In fact, even taking the leap from Topgolf to a more sophisticated course might feel incredibly intimidating, so we put together a list of top courses for beginners. These venues either have lower price points, easier courses, a welcoming atmosphere or a combination of all three to help you get started.

Papago Golf Course

East Phoenix

Papago Golf Course, dubbed the finest public golf course in the state, offers beautiful views and a central location that makes it easy to round up your group of friends for the occasion. It has wide fairways and is easy to navigate so that you can keep your attention on the game — not where you’re headed. Plus, if you’re still nervous about getting around, the course offers tours for beginners.

Continental Golf Course

Central Scottsdale

This award-winning course is affordable, well-maintained and welcoming. While they offer more difficult holes and tighter fairways, there’s also a short-range area to help you perfect your craft before heading to the course. Golfers can look forward to a picturesque setting, complete with plenty of trees (meaning shade) and water features.

Coronado Golf Course

South Scottsdale

If you want to dabble in golf but aren’t committed to the hefty price tag that often accompanies the sport, Coronado might be the place for you. This course prides itself on being the most affordable golfing venue in Scottsdale and on its beginner-friendly 9-hole course. Plus, if you’re looking to improve your skills after dark, Coronado offers a lighted driving range that remains open until 10 p.m., and if you need to loosen up, they have you covered with $1.50 cans of PBR. Just make sure to bring cash!

Dobson Ranch Golf Course

Mesa

This 18-hole course is committed to being fun and friendly— exactly what you need when you’re a newcomer to the world of golf. It’s also known for being affordable, and the range is open until 9 p.m. for extra practice time. Dobson Ranch is great if you’re recruiting friends to learn with you as it offers group lessons and an on-site restaurant for post-game hangouts.

Kierland Golf Club

North Scottsdale

You might expect all resort golf courses to be welcoming to beginners, but that’s not the case. However, at Kierland Golf Club, aspiring golfers have all the tools they need to succeed— like an expertly designed course with bowl-shaped holes to ensure your ball stays in the game. There’s also a learning center, practice areas and plenty of options for lessons and clinics. As if that’s not enough, it’s been dubbed one of the country’s most cheerful golf courses, likely thanks to amenities such as air-conditioned golf carts.

Don’t fall behind in your business game because you can’t make it to the course! Get practicing and start networking for those connections. Or head to the course to simply have some fun!
